Life calms down 10 Sep!!

It's coming....a week and three days away. That is the day my life calms down to a dull, dreary 45-50 hrs/wk and that's only work. Add on top of that application for graduate school and preparing for the Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP). Oh well, maybe one day life will calm down. To those of you that know me...how long have I asked that question?

On another quick note, my local news is reporting Utah ACT scores are above the national average at a staggering 21.7 average (national average: 21.2). The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) reported homeschoolers had an average of 22.4. Go homeschoolers!!!

The local news was trying to justify why vouchers should be voted down. Argument: Our public schools are better than normal thus vouchers aren't needed. Well, currently I am against vouchers because I don't want to see the government attempt to regulate private schools (or homeschoolers if they were ever included in the voucher program) because they received federal funds for their school. However, it really upsets me that I'm on the same side of the public school teachers.

Back to work!!

I don't think you should be upset that you are on the same side as public school teachers. I know a lot of teachers and their main concern to for the general welfare and well being of their students, just like you for your children in a home school. They have huge numbers to be concerned with because Utah chooses not to fund smaller class sizes, but that doesn't diminish their concern.

I also agree with you about accountability. If our state tax dollars go to vouchers and vouchers go to private schools, then we as tax payers have a right to know what's going on in that school. If the school doesn't want government interference, then they shouldn't accept vouchers. I believe strongly that in our country they should be able to have the right too to have a school that teaches what they want without government oversight. But if they get government money, they should be accoutable to the people, period.

OTOH, I can see being disturbed (very) by being on the same side of an issue with GRTF teachers--enjoy the irony. Any school (home, private, parochial) that takes voucher money is doomed. Why can't we just get the money back? Orrrrr, better yet--how about the gov't never take the money in the first place!!!!

Oh yeah, and never forget the adage about stopped/unionized clocks.

So what's going on Sept. 10?
